The Quandary of Human Existence

Here it is, three months since my last post. A mere blink in the grand scheme of things. But of course, you haven’t been wondering why the DEEPER side of things hasn’t crossed your inbox of late, because you have better things to do with your mental attention than worry about the frequency of these posts.

But let’s face it, we’re all busy, even when we’re not we’re still busy resting and recharging. Resting is as important as doing, recharging as vital as creative outflow. And in times like the present when all seems so uncertain and confusing it’s a great time to reflect on, well, the DEEPER side of things.

And so, with that I offer the following crystallization of my current observation of the state of human existence. Yes, you heard me right: “human existence.” If we’re going deep, we might as well go all the way. Like what the heck is this thing called human existence and what are we supposed to be doing with our focus and attention?

In conversations with conscious friends, a common thread emerges: a collective scratching of the heads. A question about why? Why is the world in such turmoil. Why can’t people see through the distortion of corporate owned media? And what’s the delio with the ever-persistent Trumpism.

While I have carefully avoided dipping my writing toe in the political waters for fear of entering the clouded sphere of political belief and identity, I think I’m safe to question the phenomenon of Trumpism, as I’m estimating the likelihood of any Trumpers reading the DEEPER side of things at about zero percent.

So, with that understanding out of the way and safely naming Trumpism a most troubling phenomenon that will likely go down in the annals of history as a watershed moment in which (again) humanity has forsaken its own collective benefit for the indulgence of the few, let’s get back on track as I’ve digressed enough.

So, what was I talking about? Oh yeah, my current observation of human existence.

Biting off a big chunk to chew on, here goes . . .

Since perfect parents do not exist, we are all raised imperfectly, loved imperfectly, nurtured imperfectly, at times neglected, at times allowed to run raggedly across the years of adolescence, and in all too many instances we are even abused.

The result is that we grow into adulthood with our imperfections in tow, because of course we can’t be perfect given we were raised imperfectly, which means as we have children, we in turn raise them imperfectly and the cycle continues.

While we have many cultural values that are rarely named, and yet strongly impressed into our minds from an early age, one cultural value we do not have is to place high importance on personal growth and healing.
