As We Expand Spiritually Our Circle of Friends Shrink
It’s valuable to understand so we can honor our own truth
I read an article recently on Medium, Eckhart Tolle and the snake oil of modern spirituality. In the article the author referenced the huge international sales of his landmark book The Power of Now as an example of meaningless spiritual talk that does nothing for the readers.
The author definitely read the book as he pulled numerous quotes to illustrate his point that Tolle uses a lot of words to say not much of anything. The funny thing is, when I read the passages he quoted they made perfect sense to me, but not to the author of the article, not to the one who sees Tolle as a snake oil salesman.
A couple of weeks ago I posted A Shared Vocabulary for Human Evolution, as a first stab at defining some pieces of language that can help us evolve if we seek to more deeply define the words we use. And then I read this article about Eckhart Tolle, taking in the passages quoted and feeling them resonate within. But the author has an entirely different perspective on Tolle.
